Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Director, Senior Clinical Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacist in non-judgement, repetitive, tasks relating to the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals.  



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsibilities include: medication order entry, filling unit dose medication cassettes, preparation of sterile products including chemotherapy medications, maintenance of medication inventory, controlled substance preparation and records. Plus much more. 
  • Selects appropriate drug quantity and orders form of administration. Packages extemporaneous unit dosage of tablets, capsules, powders and liquids using electronic tablet counter, auto pipette and ointment press.
  • May set up and assist in preparation of intravenous solutions, respiratory drugs, admixtures, hyperalimentation solutions and intravenous additives by using aseptic techniques.
  • Prepares drug dispensing forms. May type labels, records and files index cards. May maintain records of patient discharge, transfer slips, charge document and medication administration documentation.
  • Distributes drugs to patient medication drawer or tray, records units dispensed/returned. May dispense drugs to patients.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience: None. 

Req. Certification/Licensure: Valid California Pharmacy Technician license. Current American Heart Association (CPR) Certification.
