Environmental Services Supervisor

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible to maintain the hospital and office buildings in a safe, clean, sanitary, orderly and attractive manner, free from offensive odors.  To ensure housekeeping personnel perform daily cleaning of occupied patient areas, nursing stations, work area, halls, lounges, storage areas, laboratory, bathrooms, offices, and any other areas assigned, in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department, and in accordance with the facility’s objectives.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsible to establish and administer schedules of housekeeping staff.
  • Holds monthly staff meetings to provide in-service and information to staff.
  • Responsible for training and special education as may be required for staff.
  • Reviews reports from all shifts on a daily basis and reports unusual or urgent issues to the appropriate management staff.
  • Orders linen on a daily basis and maintain linen supplies within budget.
  • Inspect work completed by staff to ascertain compliance with Policies and Procedures.
  • Reports any broken equipment and or required building repairs to Chief Engineer.
  • Orders and issues housekeeping supplies.
  • Performs supervisory duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
  • Reviews and develops EVS Policies and Procedures to ascertain compliance with Title 22, Division 5, Chapter 1, Sections 70825, 70827, 70837, 70843, 70845 and 70847 and other applicable law.
  • Conduct orientation, re-orientation, training, and in-service continuing education to new hires and assigned staff.
  • Responsible for employment, disciplinary action, grievances, and termination of housekeeping personnel.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Minimum Experience: Three years’ environmental services experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.  Should be familiar with cleaning chemicals, their uses and functions.  Should be thoroughly familiar with proper cleaning techniques and isolation technique cleaning.  Should be knowledgeable with JCAHO requirements.  Should be able to prioritize workload appropriately.

Req. Certification/Licensure: None. CPR desirable.
