Lab Assistant/CPT

The Lab Assistant / CPT is responsible for logging in patient specimens, adding fixatives and preservatives to specimens, smearing specimens onto microscopic glass slides, setup for microbiology,  preparing reagents, and assist in the specimen processing and filing. Assures quality of work, workflow, turnaround-time; assures accurate testing to support quality patient care; accepts suggestions and corrections and adjusts to changing situations.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Evaluates collected specimens for volume, collection container and other measures.
  • Accessions specimens, evaluating samples for proper submission and recording any problems.
  • Batches specimen and controls for testing.
  • Prepares patient specimen for culture.
  • Perform fluorescent antigen stain.
  • Perform enzyme immunoassay procedures.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent. 

Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience. Proper phlebotomy procedures, use of latest blood drawing equipment, proper transportation and handling of blood samples. Basic knowledge of laboratory tests and specimen requirements. Ability to deal and communicate effectively with many people. Must be able to prioritize, organize and coordinate duties.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Current California Phlebotomy Certificate or LVN license. Current American Heart Association (BLS) Certification.
